The Movie:

The Croods is a prehistoric comedy adventure that follows the world’s first family as they embark on a journey of a lifetime when the cave that has always shielded them from danger is destroyed. Traveling across a spectacular landscape, the Croods discover an incredible new world filled with fantastic creatures — and their outlook is changed forever.

Animation has improved vastly over the years and the stories that have been told have had a lot more substance than they used to have. The Croods is a perfect example of this. Set in prehistoric times it revolves around a family that are basically shut ins due to the father, Grug (), wanting to protect them from anything “New” or “different”. It was interesting to see a movie set in that time take on a theme that you would see in the modern day world – A father just trying to do what he feels is right for his family. The whole way throughout the story he begins to realize that “new” and “different” isn’t necessarily a bad thing and starts to be more open to change. It really wasn’t accurate historically (as far as we know..haha) but that was one of the things I liked about it. Some of the best moments were the ways the characters were being introduced to some of the things that we use day to day like fire or umbrellas. Some of them even wore “boots with fur”. Again, not really accurate but funny to see them discover all these things. The animation was something I was really impressed with. Pixar and Dreamworks have lead the way for CG animation but there are notably two different styles. The Croods shows a lot more of a cinematic style with certain camera angles and framework that really feels like someone is there holding the camera at times. It’s great! I sat there and was amazed by the look and feel of the film. The voice acting matched the film and characters perfectly. With the likes of , , , and you really can’t go wrong. They all played off of each other very well even though for the most part they probably weren’t even in the same room together. To me that’s even more impressive.

The fantastic thing about experiencing a film in Digital HD is that you can literally take it wherever you go! I watched it via my iPhone and all I did was pop in some earphones and sat in the backyard and watched half of it. I walked right inside my house connected it to my laptop and without skipping a beat, I watched the rest of it through iTunes. It was great because it picked up right where I left off! If you’re on a long shopping trip or you want a movie to entertain the kids on a road trip then Digital HD is the perfect way to go!
