The Movie:

When a radio falls from the sky into the hands of a wide-eyed Tibetan Mastiff, he leaves home to fulfill his dream of becoming a musician, setting into motion a series of completely unexpected events.

I think I can speak for pretty much everyone when I say that we all love animated films. The thing about it though is that in recent years we all been trained as an audience that if it isn’t Pixar or Dreamworks then it isn’t going to be good. I was even guilty of this when I initially saw this trailer but let me be the one to tell you that Rock Dog is actually pretty good. It was a nice family film with the ultimate message of following your dreams and being true to yourself as well as trying to avoid conflict by other means. That’s honestly something that I wouldn’t have expected from an animated film and even though there are elements that are predictable it’s still effective in the message that it’s putting across. I honestly had no idea initially but this movie touts a great list of celebrities that do the voice acting and they’re awesome at it. As you watch the film you’ll start to recognize the voices of Luke Wilson, Matt Dillon, Mae Whitman, Sam Elliott and more. The animation itself is another positive about the film. It’s not the BEST film out there but it looks just as slick and polished as any other film out there and it’s a shame that it didn’t get its credit during its theatrical run. If you’re looking for a film with a nice little message that everyone can identify with and enjoy then this is one to pick up! 7/10

Special Features:

Finding the Fire: The Making of Rock Dog – The usual “Behind The Scenes” feature that includes interviews and clips from the film.

Mic Check: Casting the Voices – A really nice look at the voice cast of the film.

A Rockin’ New World: Animating Rock Dog – A great feature that goes in depth regarding the storyboarding and CGI creation which is extremely fascinating to me.

Rock Dog and Roll: Exploring the Music – This feature focuses on the song “Glorious” and its co-writer Adam Freedman.
