Nurse Jackie – Season Six: Blu-ray Review

Jackie (Edie Falco) realizes that sobriety is the ultimate cover for getting high, and now she’s saving lives at work, taking care of her kids and her boyfriend loves the new her. She’s got everyone fooled, but what goes up must come down

I’ve watched this show on and off since the beginning and decided that if I was going to check out this season I needed to catch up. After all that was done I jumped right in. I’m not going to sugar coat it, I didn’t really like this season starting out. Much of it felt like it was rehashing certain things that have already been done. Then towards the middle of the season it started to get more interesting. The season overall was pretty good and the character development that went into the supporting cast was great, the only thing that I couldn’t manage to do was like Jackie herself. The way she continued to use drugs and cheat on her significant other just made me not even want to try to like her. After thinking on it for a while I could see that this is the complete opposite from your traditional character building scenario. For instance, in a show like Breaking Bad they took a good man and transformed him into a villain. In this sense this character may not be a villain but they are taking a bad person and (hopefully) converting her to be a good person and this season more so than the others seems like it’s starting to transition a bit more. Jackie is at an internal crossroads with her life and I can’t help but hope she turns herself around. Now I may not particularly like the character but the show has done it’s job to keep me engaged in the story. The season ends on a note that will leave you floored and wanting to know what’s going to happen next so even though I may not agree with some of the things that happen in the show I will definitely be watching to see the culmination of everything. 8/10
