Jay (Maika Monroe) is a 19 year old girl, who, after a seemingly innocent sexual encounter, suddenly finds herself plagued by nightmarish visions. She can’t shake the sensation that someone, or something, is following her. As the threat closes in, Jay and her friends must somehow escape the horrors that are only a few steps behind.
There have been so many different kinds of horror films over the years. Some try to capitalize on a trend and others just pave their own way in the genre. This film is one of those that other horror films will try to imitate. The film starts off in a way that has you scratching your head but in a “WTF” kind of way. The first 5 minutes of it pull you in and get you wondering just what the hell is going on and from there it’s a crazy roller coaster. It also is a perfect way of showing the dangers of people having casual sex. Yes, I know slasher films made that well known but this film takes it to another level. I’m pretty numb when it comes to horror films so I haven’t found anything that surprises me lately but this did the trick. It’s unique and innovative in a way that isn’t fast paced but highly effective when it comes to the terror aspect of it. There was one moment that I thought was a bit weird and that was the pool scene in the school. Everything seemed scatterbrained but I guess in a way it makes sense since these kids are dealing with this force kind of blindly and not knowing what to do. “It” had the perfect scare factor for something that just walks. There is something about it that just makes you panic every time it shows up. The ending to the film was subtle but so effective. They decided to leave it a bit ambiguous but not in a way that is going to piss you off. It’ll most likely leave saying “Hmmmmm”. This is definitely a film that you won’t forget anytime soon. 9/10
