Housebound: Blu-ray Review

The Movie:

Kylie Bucknell (Morgana O’Reilly) is forced to return to the house she grew up in when the court places her on home detention. Her punishment is made all the more unbearable by the fact she has to live there with her mother Miriam (Rima Te Wiata) – a well-intentioned blabbermouth who’s convinced that the house is haunted. Kylie dismisses Miriam’s superstitions as nothing more than a distraction from a life occupied by boiled vegetables & small-town gossip. However, when she too becomes privy to unsettling whispers & strange bumps in the night, she begins to wonder whether she’s inherited her overactive imagination, or if the house is in fact possessed by a hostile spirit who’s not particularly thrilled about her return.

I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect with this film but it seemed pretty interesting so why the hell not. It’s starts off in typical horror movie fashion with hints of a haunting within a home and surprisingly has a lot of great suspenseful moments. The really surprising thing is the comedic moments in the film. It reminds me a lot of the blend of comedy and horror that Dead Alive and Shaun Of The Dead had and with just as much gore. From there it went from being a horror film into being somewhat of a mystery/thriller in a sense. Which is not a bad thing, it was just a bit of a surprise though. O’Reilley’s character was one that you really don’t like from the start but as the film continues you find you find yourself siding with her and she develops into a great heroine. It’s a great little switch in character that I truly appreciate and this film does it rather well. If you’re in the mood for a great little splatter film with some great suspense then I recommend that you check this out.

Special Features:

Deleted Scenes – There are only 2 scenes here that you could tell were cut because it would’ve slowed the film down a bit.

Housebound is available NOW on Blu-ray and DVD from XLrator Media
