Friends with Kids: Review

Written, Directed and Starring Jennifer Westfeldt and sporting an All-Star cast with the likes of Jon Hamm, Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Adam Scott among many others. This movie tells the story of two best friends (Westfeldt and Scott) that decide to have a baby together without the confines of a marriage or relationship after seeing their mutual friends having to deal with the issues of maintaining a relationship and raising a family. This movie had my attention right away after seeing the list of actors involved, a lot of whom are comedic geniuses in my opinion. When it started I was expecting to see a movie about a fumbling relationship with hilarity ensuing afterwards but it wasn’t that at all. Don’t get me wrong, this movie was funny but it also had a great love story in it as well. The progression of the platonic “Hey, we’re BFF’s!” to the more complicated “So, how did your date go?” and eventual “I’m in love with my best friend” was a little predictable but was done with heart and mixed with the perfect balance of humor and seriousness. I have a certain amount of respect for Writer/Director/Actors and I feel Westfeldt really hit the mark with this one. I hope to see more of her work soon.
