The Movie:
An accomplished physicist (Rufus Sewell) mysteriously disappears on a business trip. Abandoned, his wife (Gillian Anderson) and son Erol (Haley Joel Osment) struggle to cope. Years later, now a young scientist himself, Erol uncovers papers, formulas, a machine, and a mind-bending possibility. But time travel is impossible. Isn’t it? Erol’s obsession to find his father and restore his family will throw him into the unknown and possibly threaten his life. What would you do to repair the past?
I hadn’t seen Osment is a film in a very long time so I was interested in seeing how his acting ability had changed over the years. This film starts out fairly predictable with a father/husband saying goodbye to his family and getting on an airplane. By the time that moment ends you know that he isn’t coming home and that things are going to change for the family. What we start to see is the beginnings of a murder mystery or a cold case kind of film but what we end up with is something entirely different. You wouldn’t expect it from watching the film to this point but it’s a time travel film! Yup, a bonafide sci-fi time travel film but it’s not the bright and shiny kind of movie that you would expect from that sort of genre. It’s more drama driven than anything which made me really like it a lot. Mainly because it wasn’t full of cliches or the usual things you would see. The science behind it seemed logical to a certain point and I think that’s what made it interesting and kept me glued to the screen. The acting was solid and everyone gave a great performance, especially Anderson. She was the wheels that kept the film moving along, even in the scenes that she wasn’t in. That’s not to say that Osment wasn’t good in his own right. He committed to his character so much that I could honestly believe the scenario that was going on. This film was actually a nice surprise that throws you an interesting curveball which makes this one to check out.
Special Features:

Deleted Scenes – 3 scenes that don’t give too much more info than already in the film but kind of neat to see.
