Alvin And The Chipmunks – The Road Chip: DVD Review

The Movie:

Hit the road with your favorite fur balls in the funniest Alvin and the Chipmunks ever! Alvin, Simon and Theodore race to Miami on a wild road trip, but their jaunt soon takes a nutty detour, leading to hilarious hijinks and music-packed adventures across the country.

Here we are at the third entry in the Alvin and the Chipmunks series. It was only a matter of time before the chipmunks went on and had a road trip film. It’s funny because normally I would look the other way with films like this especially the sequels but after having kids I found myself watching more and more of these kind of movies……and actually enjoying them. This film is nowhere close to being a perfect film but guess what? I enjoyed it! Ok, before everyone starts throwing pitchforks at me let me explain myself. I began to enjoy the movie a whole lot more when I looked over and saw my son laughing his head off. As I started to watch the film a bit closer I noticed that it addressed a scenario that mixed families go through every so often and that’s: Will my parent forget me when they remarry? That’s deep, right? The film handles it in a way that makes it really easy to watch and gives a heart filled resolution to it all. That’s the great thing about these films. They are fun to watch with your kids yet give a great family oriented story for people to follow. Now the one thing that I scoffed at even watching it with my son was the American Idol scenes. I know the show was ending so that’s why it was probably included but it doesn’t resonate with people anymore, especially young people. Other than that I really liked the mix between the cheesy comedic moments (Who doesn’t just look forward to Dave saying “Alviiiiiiiiin!”) and the musical numbers. 7/10
