After a sizzling summer with Damon, Elena leaves Mystic Falls for Whitmore College and moves into a dorm with Caroline as her roomie, ready for new adventures and new friends. But dark thoughts gnaw at Elena, and soon familiar faces are back in the girls lives. There’s Stefan with his shadow self, Silas, plus Katherine, with a diabolical agenda and a jaw-dropping transformation. As the doppelgangers test destiny, pitting the Salvatore brothers against each other, the student body count rises — evidence of powerful forces on campus. The struggle later continues between the mysterious Travelers, new witches, and our favorite vampires, fighting for their own survival and, ultimately, the fate of Mystic Falls. Sink your teeth into all 22 bloodthirsty episodes of this passionate, heart-ripping, supernatural series.

The Show:
What more can I say about this show that you haven’t already heard. This season we were introduced to many other paranormal characters to add even more complexity to this show. There is so much to love about this show and even after it’s fifth season, it is stronger than ever. And the ending?! UGH. I don’t want to ruin anything, but I am patiently waiting for the next season to premiere. How will the TVD writers spin this?? This is definitely a season filled with so many emotions and a must see!

My Likes: I liked the view of the girls attending college, that sense of growing and well shifting into a new era for TVD. I also liked Bonnie’s return and how her relationship with Jeremy grew stronger. I also liked, what I felt, was a bit more closure on the whole Elena and Stefan question. I know we all anticipate them to get back together, but I felt that in this season we were somewhat more convinced that it will not happen. Oh, and lets talk music! I always thoroughly enjoy the music selection on this show! Kudos to the individual(s) that have such awesome taste.

My Dislikes: Perhaps my main complaint would be how complicated some stories got – and I mean from the amount of character and all the rules between them all. Sometimes I did find it hard to follow or even keep my interest in some scenes. Don’t give me wrong, still a fantastic series, it just had its moments of “eh”. Also, I started having issues with Elena. Can I pinpoint what it is? Not really. But this season was the season that pushed me over the edge with her. She got too darn whiny and always had to have things her way. Not cute Elena, not cute!

Special Features:

Reinvention: To the other side and back – The creator and cast discuss how ghosts were gradually introduced to the series and we even get to hear a personal story from executive producer, Julie Plec.

I know what you did…in the last 100 episodes – The cast and crew discuss their road to the 100th episode. There’s cake and even a pop quiz given to the cast members!

A day in the afterlife with Kat Graham – Kat Graham shows you the other side of her day and what it takes to become Bonnie Bennett. Always so fun to watch behind the scenes following an actor. So much make-up, hair, and prep work involved to create a character — definitely something to appreciate!

Second bite (Gag Reel) – Our fave actors out of character and goofing off?? YES!
