Season Overview:

The stakes are higher than ever following a narrow escape from the nightmare of Neverland and Peter Pan. A year after their amazing adventure, Emma and Henry are living in New York with no awareness of their past history — until Hook shows up and jogs Emma’s memory with a magic potion. Once again, the “Savior” is called back to Storybrooke when a legendary villainess arrives in disguise to curse the town anew and exact an unspeakably cruel vengeance. Now, with Regina and Emma working together, the stage is set for an epic showdown between the Evil Queen and the Wicked Witch of the West!

Once Upon A Time is back again with another season that shows just how different they can take flip the fairytale spectrum. Initially I wasn’t entirely sure just how this show was going to work but it has proved to be a fun and compelling piece of storytelling. The best thing about this show (and the trend continues with this season) is the way they take fairytale/Disney characters and change them up and actually in some cases make them a bit dark. I was thrilled to see Peter Pan and Ariel from The Little Mermaid in roles that I would’ve never expected….especially Peter Pan. The way he was portrayed was an evil, mischievous kid with a hidden past that begins to unravel and that had me intrigued. That was the best thing about this season was that all plot points that and story developments didn’t get thrown at you fast. Instead what we got was a slow burning candle that gets hotter and hotter the longer it burns. I think the thing that made it possible is the clever use of the seasons’ 22 episodes and utilization of fantastic actors. The whole cast gives standout performances that are so good that it is extremely difficult to pick a favorite but I really did start to lean towards liking Captain Hook. They actually gave that character a bit more room to develop and I thought that was pretty cool. This show is definitely something that will catch you off guard and end up pulling you in and keeping your eyes glued to the screen.

Special Features:

Wicked Villains – A great feature on the villains in the show. It goes in depth about their intentions and what their characters thrive for.

The Tale of Ariel – A quick feature that takes a look introducing The Little Mermaid into the show and the journey from casting to the actual performance.

Inside the Writers’ Room – A really quick promo that shows the writer’s room of the show. Check out the writing on the board behind the writers themselves. Funny stuff.

Deleted Scenes – A really good collection of scenes that I could honestly see staying in but I’m sure were cut for time constraints.

Comic-Con Meets Ariel – A look at the promo that was shown at Comic-Con

The Fairest Bloopers of Them All – Funny outtakes but way too short.

Once Upon A Time: The Complete Third Season is available NOW on Blu-ray and DVD from ABC Studios
