The Movie:

The townsfolk of a rural community are dying in strange and gruesome circumstances. Following the trail of horrifically mutilated cadavers, resident health inspector Mike Brady is on the case to piece together the mystery. He soon comes to a terrifying conclusion – giant slugs are breeding in the sewers beneath the town, and they’re making a meal of the locals!

It’s been a REALLY long time since I’ve seen this movie so of course there was a whole lot of excitement on my part to revisit it. As soon as the film started so many memories came back and I had a hell of a time watching this all over again. It’s very easy to see that this is a movie that inspired films like Slither and The Faculty among many others and that’s pretty cool to see. For it being a cheesy low budget horror movie (even back in the day it was considered one) it was super entertaining and actually had its really cool horror moments. One in particular being the business dinner scene where you see a man literally tear his face apart and baby slugs come pouring out. Sounds insane right? Well the whole movie is just like that pretty much. As you can imagine, the acting is subpar and there was nothing in the performances that “Wowed” me but with a film with the name Slugs I kind of feel like you can’t go into it expecting Oscar winning performances either. It is what it is and to me the cheesy acting adds to the novelty of the movie which makes it an absolute guilty pleasure to watch. I’ve said it before, Arrow Video really kills it with the presentation of cult classics just like this and the packaging alone is worth the purchase. Definitely pick this up as soon as you can and enjoy the cheesy horror all over again! 6/10
