Season Overview:

In “Scream: The TV Series” Season 1″, what starts as a YouTube video going viral, soon leads to problems for the teenagers of Lakewood and serves as the catalyst for a murder that opens up a window to the town’s troubled past.

When a film goes the TV adaptation route it’s hard not to be negative. Everyone’s first thought is usually “They’re just going to water down the franchise and ruin it.”. Well I can honestly say that it wasn’t the case with this version of Scream. It managed to keep the “spirit” of the films but give a fresh mystery to try to figure out. I give the show credit because every time they made nods to someone being the killer they would flip it to someone else and that continued until the very end of episode 10. It kept things interesting and had me continuously guessing. Now because it is an MTV show it did lack some of the gorier moments but for it being on that network it did push that boundary a bit. They would slightly show gore then quickly cut away which I can understand. The one thing that I did find disappointing was that lack of creative kills. There were a few, don’t get me wrong, but this being a 10 episode season I figured there would be an abundance of them. There were a few unanswered questions that I kept in my head during the final episode of the season and literally with 5 minutes left they addressed them and pretty much said “Yeah, we know. We did that on purpose to have you come back and watch season 2”. I can respect that. At least they had a plan for the show moving forward. For it being an MTV show it was really well done and has a lot of potential to be something pretty great provided that they keep up the same type of work they are doing so far. 7/10

Special Features:

Gag Reel – A good look at how the cast flubs their lines and is able to relax a bit on a mostly serious series.

Deleted Scenes – A decent amount of scenes that don’t really offer too much more to the story so I can understand why they were cut.
