The Movie:

Two journalists set out to document their friend’s journey to reunite with his estranged sister. They track her to an undisclosed location where they are welcomed into the remote world of “Eden Parish,” a self-sustained rural utopia composed of nearly two hundred members and overseen by a mysterious leader known only as “Father.” It quickly becomes evident to the newcomers that this paradise may not be as it seems. Eden Parish harbors a twisted secret. What started as just another documentary shoot soon becomes a fight for survival.

I’m a huge fan of what Ti West has done in his career so far. You mix him with the phrase “Eli Roth Presents” and you have me sold even without knowing anything about the project. The film is basically another “found footage” type of film which in a way I’m kind of over already but can be enjoyable if done right. We are given a look into a kind of story that I can’t recall seeing before but it’s stuff that is actually happens in real life so already the creep factor is fairly high with this. The movie was great at giving a kind of suspense that I haven’t seen in a while. It’s not your typical horror movie. I would label it more of a thriller than anything and the slow build up to the finale was good. If you’re looking for crazy, outlandish and shocking gore then you may be disappointed but please don’t let that deter you from watching this. This is the kind of scariness that feels like that classic films of the past and you definitely can’t let this one get passed you. If you’re a horror lover then you’ll be able to appreciate this one for sure.
