The Movie:

William Shakespeare’s epic love story, Romeo () and Juliet () is brought to us in fresh new eyes. As the story goes, the two secretly wed despite the sworn contempt their families hold for each another. It is not long, however, before a chain of fateful events changes the lives of both families forever. Screenplay by . Directed by .

The story of Romeo and Juliet is known by almost everyone. The tale of love so strong that even hate would not keep apart. This was a fantastic retelling of that heartbreaking story. I thoroughly enjoyed the location, all the amazing costumes, and especially the acting. Juliet was played by , which was beautifully portrayed might I add. She brought such innocence and intensity to her character. I adored watching her and her never ending costume changes. She was really a vision to see. Romeo was played by  and boy was he dreamy! He had this ease and charisma about him that was very appealing and real. The chemistry between the pair was intense, even though they are both young (in the film and in real life).  played Lord Capulet with also an immense passion. I’ve seen him in a few other films and on TV, and in this movie just furthermore displayed his versatility.   appeared as Friar Laurence, Romeo’s father, and I’ve never surprised by his performance. He has always shown a great deal of range in all the characters he has portrayed.  as Tybalt was a sight to see. I’m a fan of Westwick because of my love for Gossip Girl, and seeing him take on a role like this was refreshing. Not to mention, I somewhat dig the long hair on him! I also was in love with  (Benvolio)! And I just realized he was in another great foreign film I enjoyed which probably explains my slight obsession with him. He was just such an endearing character to me. Other notable actors were  (Lady Capulet),  (Nurse),  (Mercutio), and  (Prince of Verona). It was a very eclectic cast and the chemistry between them all was admirable. With the wonderful scenery, beautiful wardrobe, and powerful screenplay, it deserved a second watch! I had actually seen this movie during opening weekend but seeing it at home (at with captions lol) it helped me better understand and appreciate this film. I give this movie a 4 star rating, so with that being said, all you period piece or romance lovers, go check this out!
