The Movie:

Mia is an aspiring actress and Sebastian is a dedicated jazz musician who are struggling to make ends meet in a city known for crushing hopes and breaking hearts. Set in modern-day Los Angeles, this original musical about everyday life explores the joy and pain of pursuing your dreams.

It might come to a surprise to many when I say that I love musicals. When I get the chance to watch a really good one (which is very seldom) it tends to leave an impression on me and this film did just that. It took everything that I love about the genre and blended it with classic cinema style but with a modern take on it and I couldn’t get enough of it. The chemistry that Gosling and Stone possess is insane and it was so real to the point that I barely was able to separate them as characters and actors. Stone has this quality to her that is so awkward and cutesy but immensely endearing at the same time. Gosling….well, what isn’t there to like about him? He’s funny and charming and those qualities mixed with those of Stone created a perfect feel of the film. The story is great as well with it sending you on a rollercoaster of emotions and gives you a fairly realistic look at a relationship (you know, besides all the singing and dancing). Since this is a musical the music is obviously a big part of it and they definitely knocked it out of the park. From the first song to the very last one you’ll find yourself humming and tapping your feet the entire time. If you’re a lover of musicals then you HAVE to own this film and I guarantee you that you’ll have each and every song stuck in your head. This film is without a doubt an instant classic. 10/10

4K Presentation:

The vibrancy of colors and sharpness of each scene are fantastically presented. I wouldn’t have even thought that something like that would be the case because usually it’s bigger budget films that get a nicer release. Close up of the stars are amazingly detailed to the point where you can see pores and laugh lines which is very impressive. The best part however comes from the song and dance numbers where everything looks so crisp and vibrant. Definitely the best way to watch this film.
