The Movie:

Returning to her childhood home in Louisiana to recuperate from a horrific car accident, Jessabelle (Sarah Snook) comes face to face with a long-tormented spirit that has been seeking her return and clearly has no intention of letting her escape.

We’ve seen so many of these “Ghost Story” kind of films that it’s hard to think that we could see something unique and then here comes Jessabelle. This film tries really hard to be fresh and in some instances it is but for the most part it’s what you would come to expect from this sort of story. The story itself was intriguing for the most part and actually had me wondering where they were going to go with it. There were some good moments that the film zigged instead of zagged and that was the thing that kept me watching to be honest. Another good thing about the film was the interaction between Snook and Mark Webber. The chemistry they had really drove the film along (even though Webber’s character is supposed to be married) and gave some weight to it. This movie does an excellent job at capturing the creep factor and keeping you guessing regarding the mystery BUT it ends in a way that is predictable unfortunately. That’s not to say that the film isn’t entertaining, it just happens to be something you may have seen before in the past. If you choose to check it out then just be aware that you may experience some cinematic deja vu.

Special Features:

Audio Commentary with Director Kevin Greutert, Writer Robert Ben Garant, and Executive Producer Jerry Jacobs

Jessabelle: Deep in the Bayou – A feature that looks at the setting of the film along with interviews from the cast and crew.

Deleted Scenes – A few scenes here that actually aren’t too bad but understandably cut.

Outtakes – The usual miscues, line flubs and mistakes.

Extended Ending – I actually prefer this extended version than the one that was presented.

Jessabelle is available NOW on Blu-ray and DVD from Lionsgate
