The Movie:

How deep into the darkness will you go to discover the truth? After the events of the first film, we follow the haunted Lambert family (, ) as they seek to uncover the mysterious childhood secret that has left them dangerously connected to the spirit world. They must rely on familiar allies to exile the demons that follow them and unearth the secret before the evil continues its deadly rampage.

has made a career of giving everyone the creeps and with Insidious it has become a different level of horror that no one has really seen. It’s been my experience as a movie watcher that usually sequels of horror films don’t usually go over really well as far as quality goes and that it just becomes watered down. This sequel is one of the few exceptions. The biggest thing that I appreciated the most was that it picked up immediately where the first one finished and continued on from there. If you watch the both films back to back it feels like its continuing the story almost seamlessly which proves great filmmaking. After watching the first one I had wondered if they were going to ever focus on “The Bride” that we see periodically throughout the movie and I’m so glad that they decided to make that a big part of the story in the sequel. The story itself is such an interesting one that is so twisted yet captivating in a sense. There were plenty of moments that rivaled the first film and that kept me constantly on edge and that’s exactly what I love about Wan’s films. They always have a sense of unpredictability that has been lacking in horror movies and that’s what makes it so unique. Wilson has found his niche and was so extremely good. He has perfected the art of playing characters that look like your typical “Dad-type” but have a totally different side to them. His ability to become someone else in a snap of a finger is impressive and almost like flipping a switch. Something like that takes a lot of skill. Byrne is such a fantastic talent and is completely believable as a sweet mother/wife. She can also go from something like to completely being in a physical situation and holding her own with no problem. He reactions in this film and the previous one were spot on and you could practically feel her fear, especially in the moments involving the small baby. If you loved the first film then you will love this one just the same and will be content with the progression of the story itself.

Special Features:

Peripheral Vision: Behind The Scenes – A fantastic look at the creation of this creepy sequel.

Ghostly Transformation – A feature about the make up effects that each actor went through to become ghosts in the film.

Insidious Chapter 2 is available December 24th on Blu-ray and DVD from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment
