The Movie:

After a recent rampage (that has now left Godzilla entombed inside of a mountain) a group of scientists sift though the rubble to try to find some type of sample of Godzilla’s DNA. As the group tries to escape with the newly found tissue sample a man (on his own) takes out the whole team and gets away with the sample. Genshiro Shiragami and his daughter Erika head to the research facility where he works but the location suddenly gets bombed by terrorists killing Erika in the process. Fast forward five years and a man named Dr. Shiragami is doing research with the DNA samples. His employers hired him to work on experimenting with the tissue in hopes to create weapons against Godzilla known as Anti-Nuclear Energy Bacteria (ANEB) but the doctor has been doing his own experiments and soon enough Biollante makes its appearance coming out from a nearby lake. Little do they know that Dr. Shiragami has also added bits of Erika’s DNA to Biollante to make it partially human. A U.S. genetics research facility known as Bio Major sends a letter to Diet of Japan informing them that if they do not hand over the ANEB that they’ll be forced to detonate bombs planted within the mountain that Godzilla is trapped in causing him to break free. Once that happens all bets are off and Godzilla ends up going head to head with Biollante.

I remember seeing this movie as a kid and being able to experience it again on bluray is pretty great. I have nothing bad to say about this movie (or any other Godzilla movie for that matter). All of these are classics in my book and to me were ahead of their time when they were released. I think the only issue I had with this release was that since some of the subtitles are hardcoded into the film it caused the bluray subtitles to overlap them and it started looking very cluttery but that’s about it.

Special Features:

Making of Godzilla vs Biollante – A 50 minute feature that shows (in depth) the making of the film. It’s pretty cool to see the “guerrilla” film making style they had back then and literally built certain rigs for their cameras. Even to this day the way they can take a normal sized guy in a Godzilla suit and make him seem humongous impresses me.

Behind The Design – A very brief look at the designs of Biollante and the Super X 2 ship that was used in the movie.

I’ve always been a Godzilla fan and if you are then this would be great to own on bluray. Along with the affordable price this really is a neat title to own.

Godzilla Vs Biollante comes to you December 4th from Echo Bridge Entertainment.
