Season Overview:

12-year old hip-hop enthusiast Eddie Huang (Hudson Yang) and his family make their way from D.C.’s Chinatown to Orlando where his dad, Louis (Randall Park) tries to make his new steakhouse a success. His mom, Jessica (Constance Wu) aims to understand the culture clash and dominate suburbia. While his brothers fit right in, Eddie’s still tries to get a seat at the table – any table – in the school cafeteria. Bullies on the bus may get him down, but Eddie can bust a move and wield a fajita like nobody’s business!

I knew I wanted to watch this show when I found out about it because it takes place around the time that I was going through the same thing as a kid. I was about the same age as little Eddie and I had just moved to a new city and had to go through making new friends all over again. Almost immediately I was laughing so hard because I kept applying it to past experiences and could not stop watching. The interaction between the young brothers are so hilarious and I couldn’t believe that these kids were that good when it came to comedic timing. Park and Wu were so fantastic and completed the circle of comedy. Each of them had their moments to shine like Wu in the episode that focused on a bootleg My Little Pony toy that her character never got as a kid called “Sparkle Time Beauty Horse”. Funniest part was the human face on the little toy horse. One of my favorite Park episodes was Dribbling Tiger, Bounce Pass Dragon where Louis became Eddie’s basketball coach and Eddie began to imagine his father playing basketball just like the movie Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (obviously…lol). The one thing that I thought was a bit of a head scratcher was the lack of Chinese subtitles. The family is Chinese-American yet the subtitles are only in English, Spanish and French. I really couldn’t get enough of this show and Eddie’s journey in growing up as a minority in a new neighborhood and I can’t wait to see more from the Huang family.

Special Features:

Fresh Facts Trivia Track – I was a little disappointed with this feature. It seems like this only works for the plot episode of the season and that’s it.

Gag Reel – With a hilarious season comes and equally hilarious gag reel that I loved.
