Season Overview:

Set in Los Angeles, a city where people come to escape, shield secrets, and bury their pasts, a mysterious outbreak threatens to disrupt what little stability high school guidance counselor Madison Clark (Kim Dickens) and English teacher Travis Manawa (Cliff Curtis) have managed to assemble. The everyday pressure of blending two families while dealing with resentful, escapist, and strung out children takes a back seat when society begins to break down. A forced evolution, a necessary survival of the fittest takes hold, and the dysfunctional family must either reinvent themselves or embrace their darker histories.

I liked the idea of this series right from the initial announcement. Seeing what happened before Rick woke up from his coma is an interesting premise and without a doubt something that every Walking Dead fan wanted to see. I watched these 6 episodes with a few people and talked to others about it and not everyone liked the first 3 or 4 episodes. They explained to me that it was because not a lot of stuff was happening and that’s when I adjusted my seat and was ready to defend it. So many people expected The Walking Dead and I get that but they failed to realize that THIS IS THE BEGINNING of the apocalypse. Of course there’s going to be a slow start but it’s intriguing enough to see these people experience this whole situation for the first time. We, as an audience, know what the outcome of it is but having others freak out and see these horrible things happening is what held my attention. The character build up is great and frustrating (in a good way) at the same time. It had me yelling at Travis practically the entire time because his way of thinking but that’s what made it so great. When a show can make you join in and react in any way then it definitely did its job. The final episode of the season was my favorite obviously because all hell broke loose and it had a lot of moments that surprised the heck out of me. Dickens and Curtis had fantastic chemistry together and their characters have so much potential to grow and I can’t wait to see how the story plays out in future seasons. I can easily recommend this for anyone that is a huge fan of The Walking Dead universe and want something fresh and new to take in and for those people that were critical of it I say give it another view via binge watching and you might have a different take on it. 9/10
