Dragonheart 3 – The Sorcerer’s Curse: Blu-ray Review

The Movie:

Aspiring knight Gareth (Julian Morris) goes in search of a fallen comet rumored to contain gold and is shocked to instead find the dragon Drago (Ben Kingsley). After Drago saves Gareth’s life the two become intricately bonded, and must work together to defeat an evil sorcerer and stop his reign of terror. Along the way, Gareth learns the true meaning of being a knight in this action adventure for the ages!

I wish you all could’ve seen my face when I found out that there was a third entry to Dragonheart. I remember watching the original film back in 1996 and I really dug it. There was something about Knights and Dragons that I was drawn to as a kid and I do remember that in 2000 they did a sequel that I don’t remember being too much fanfare about so it was really surprising to me when I saw this one. This film serves as a prequel to the 1996 film which I thought was a smart move in order to have a bit of freedom as far as storytelling goes. The interesting part was that they did with the original premise of the dragon giving a part of his heart to someone. This time around he gave it to someone that didn’t end up becoming corrupted by it and the bond between the two was pretty comical at times because of each feeling what the other endures. The story was you basic fantasy type story but even with it being basic it was still really good for it being a direct to video film. The CG effects were actually impressive and I liked the way they designed Drago and Kingsley did a great job at his voice acting. He was pretty much on par to Sean Connnery’s voice acting from the first one. This film isn’t anywhere near the quality or capacity as Game Of Thrones is but if you’re looking for an entertaining fantasy film then give this a viewing. 6/10

Special Features:

Bringing Drago to Life – This goes into Kingsley’s voice performance and what he brought to the mythical character.
