Ash Vs Evil Dead – The Complete First Season: Blu-ray Review
Campbell reprises his role as Ash, the stock boy, aging lothario and chainsaw-handed monster hunter who has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead. When a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally forced to face his demons – personal and literal. Destiny, it turns out, has no plans to release the unlikely hero from its “Evil” grip.
I remember watching The Evil Dead franchise (including the reboot) and thinking: “When are they going to do another sequel?”. Then this show was announced and I had mixed feelings about it. My main concern was that they were going to water down who Ash was and what The Evil Dead franchise meant to the fans. Thankfully I can tell you that this is most definitely NOT the case! The show feels exactly as if the movies never stopped and it pretty much stayed true to everything that the fans remember about the films. The only thing that is different is that Ash does have sidekicks this time around. It’s not a bad thing though because they do substantially add to the narrative and drive the season along really well with their individual story arcs. Each episode is pretty much its own individual adventure but give small bits that keep the overall story going. The final 2 episodes of the season are fantastic and could’ve probably been a movie on its own. They give you everything that a horror fan would ask for and it literally left me excited for the next season. I can’t get enough of this show and will EASILY recommend it to everyone. If you have had any sort of hesitation about watching it then let me be the one to tell you that this show is practically perfect in every way as far as horror TV. Groovy. 8/10
