The Movie:

A modern retelling of Shakespeare’s classic comedy about two pairs of lovers with different takes on romance and a way with words.

I’m a huge supporter of Whedon and all he does so I jumped at the chance to review this film. Sporting a cast with the likes of , , , , and It basically reads like a who’s who of the Whedon-verse. The awesome thing about that is the chemistry that the actors have with each other and Whedon himself. When you have that it shows on the screen like it did here. You could see that the comfort level was high with each of the actors and that made for some fantastic interaction. Shakespeare’s source material is still in tact as well as the lingo from that time period which it reminds me a lot of what Baz Luhrmann did for his version of Romeo And Juliet. Now the story is obviously completely different but the spirit of it is still the same. The choice to display the film in black and white was a smart one. It took away everything and forced the audience to concentrate on the dialogue and the performance itself. There aren’t many films that take on black and white anymore so that was neat part of the experience as well.  If you are a fan of Whedon then you’ll definitely love this. It almost feels like a reunion of sorts with all these people involved. If you’re not a fan of Whedon but are a fan of Shakespeare then you’ll like the clever and endearing take on this classic tale. I say pick this one up for sure!
