The Movie:
In the wake of a disaster that wipes out most of civilization, two men and a young woman find themselves in an emotionally charged love triangle as the last known survivors.
Post apocalyptic films are all the rage now so seeing another one being produced wasn’t a surprise to me. What did surprise me however was the star power that this film attracted. I can easily say that I haven’t seen a single performance from Chiwetel Ejiofor, Margot Robbie or Chris Pine that I didn’t like so that was definitely a big plus even before I started the film. This film throws out an interesting scenario where two people find each other and think they are the only ones left in their community. Suddenly another male comes into the picture and creates a love triangle. There wasn’t any action at all going on within the film and that was kind of the beauty of it. It was a very real and emotion fueled situation that just so happened to go on after a huge disaster happened. They make no real mention of what happened and normally it would bother me but this less about what happened and more about how these people are living their lives after it which felt fresh for a film. When Pine’s character came into the picture I already kind of figured what was going to happen and I had to be vocal about it. I said “Come on, that isn’t fair! It’s Chris Pine for god sakes.”. It’s the end of the world and it just so happens that a handsome dude like Chris Pine comes along? The other guy didn’t stand a chance..haha! The finale of the film was one of those moments that was very calm and almost silent but you could sense the tension between the two male characters in nothing but the glances they gave one another. I haven’t seen Robbie in too much BUT she was phenomenal in this film. Even with two very great actors in the film she showed that she could push right through them and throw herself in the forefront. She definitely is on my list of super talented actresses that I can’t wait to see more of. This is a film that might fly under the radar for some and I’m so glad that I came across it. I suggest checking it out when you have a chance because it’s always nice to find a great film that not many people know about. 8/10
Special Features:
The Making of Z for Zachariah – It’s the typical BTS feature that includes small interviews and clips from the film. To be honest I really wanted a more in depth look at the film.
Deleted Scenes – Not too much here as far as interesting scenes.
Extended Interviews – Interviews with the director, writer and two stars of the film.
