The Movie:
When Ace (Josh Duhamel), a cocky young firefighter, defies his orders and recklessly attempts a solo mission, it results in the tragic death of Colonel (Tom Skerritt), who was forced to rescue Ace when the flames burst out of control. Crushed by guilt, Ace abandons his dream and quits the fire brigade along with Fred (Rob Schneider), his trusty co-pilot. Ace resigns himself to the dreary fate of hauling coal until one day…a fire breaks out at the mines and he is forced to overcome his fears of failure, and become the hero he was destined to be.
I sat down a few evenings ago with my son (4 yrs old) and decided that we were going to watch this together. I told him what i was putting on and showed him the cover and he immediately said “Hey, it’s Planes: Fire Rescue!” (his words for Planes: Fire & Rescue). Then I spent the next 10 minutes explaining to him that it wasn’t Planes: Fire & Rescue but it was kind of similar. Kids…I tell ya…haha! When the movie started however he was completely excited to see it. The action of a team of rescue planes had him cheering and the silly situations had him giggling. His favorite seemed to be the lead character Ace. When I asked him why he told me “Because he does crazy stuff in the sky Dad!”. To me that’s more than enough reason to pick this up. If your kids will enjoy it and have a fun time watching it then it’s definitely worth it. For it not being a big blockbuster film the animation actually looks really good. It’s just as smooth and nice looking as any Dreamworks animated film but the story does lack a bit in the other hand. It’s not as solid as some of the others I’ve seen before but it’s good enough for the kiddos. They’ll like it, you’ll like that they like it and with that everyone’s happy and you’ll be Parent Of The Year.
