“Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the title I reviewed. The opinions I share are my own.”
Season Overview:
Westworld is a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and evolution of sin. Set at the intersection of the near future and a reimagined past, the series explores a world in which every human appetite, no matter how noble or depraved, can be indulged.
It’s been a really long while since a science fiction show has gotten me so hyped up and had me so completely engaged. This show is a fantastic and interesting tale regarding morality but with the backdrop of artificial intelligence and consciousness. It truly poses a lot of great questions that I feel so many people should ask themselves everyday when it comes to morality and the thought of artificial intelligence going haywire freaks me the hell out. The fantastic thing about the show is the mystery of it all. When you are shown that the “hosts” are basically androids you as a viewer start to question everything and everyone and it engages you in a way that I haven’t experienced in a long while. With this season only being 10 episodes you would think that things would feel rushed but in fact it felt like we got all the information that we needed in that allotted time without smashing it together. There were also a good number of things that weren’t resolved (obviously) and are being set up for next season and those things have me truly excited. This is an awesome show that I feel like will take us on a journey that we won’t forget any time soon. 10/10
4K Presentation:
This show was meant to be on this format. With all the various Western landscapes that you see throughout, it’s beautiful to experience it all with fantastic clarity but the thing is it kind of looks very similar to the Blu-ray version. There was little to no difference except in the darker scenes where the black levels gave a better look at the surroundings. Now even with all that being said it still looks amazing and I love just how crisp the bigger scenes look.
