The Movie:
Doug (Josh Gad), who finds himself without a main groomsman only two weeks before his wedding to Gretchen (Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting). Given his time crunch before the big day, Doug hires Jimmy (Kevin Hart) to fill in, and an unexpected friendship develops.
The premise of this film reminds me a lot of the film Hitch so I was kind of worried going in to it but at the same time it still looked interesting enough to want to check out. Hart has truly transcended from just being a typical comedian and became a bonafide movie star. Some people may be 50/50 in thinking that he’s funny but you cannot deny his likeability. He has this way about him that just makes you want to laugh even when he’s not necessarily trying to be funny. Although Gad is a main player in the film he does sit side car to Hart but he’s most certainly a great punchline to everything that is thrown at him with an almost Jonah Hill-like quality. Cuoco doesn’t have a huge part in the film but it was interesting to see her as an antagonist of a film. It’s not something that people are used to and it’s a really good change of pace. There are moments in the film that had me laughing quite a bit and I was kind of surprised because buddy films like this don’t usually hit with me but I really enjoyed it. Now with that being said the plot itself was pretty predictable and you can easily tell where it’s going. Whether you love Kevin Hart or you’re not too fond of him this will be a film that everyone can enjoy seeing as the comedy isn’t completely thrown in your face. 7/10
