The Nice Guys: Blu-ray Review
The Movie:
Set in 1970s Los Angeles, down-on-his-luck private eye Holland March (Ryan Gosling) and hired enforcer Jackson Healy (Russell Crowe) must work together to solve the case of a missing girl and the seemingly unrelated death of a porn star. During their investigation, they uncover a shocking conspiracy that reaches up to the highest circles of power.
I already knew going into this film that it was going to be quite a ride. I’ve been a fan of Shane Black for a good while so I had an idea of the kind of tone that the movie was going to have but I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. Almost immediately the story flung itself in my face and it hit the ground running. The great thing about this film is that fact that it balances the line between action and comedy the entire way through. Almost every scene had an action sequence and then a pun or gag that would lighten the mood. It’s things like that that Shane Black does extremely well. The plot is the perfect crime tale that has its twists and turns that will keep you wondering and guessing the entire way through. Gosling and Crowe have this hilarious chemistry together that make the film a joy to watch. Their banter back and forth is some of the best I’ve seen in a very long time and by the time that the movie was over I wanted there to be a sequel. This is one movie that I can easily recommend to anybody that loves sarcastic, witty comedy as well as murder mysteries. 8/10
