“The Good Dinosaur” asks the question: What if the asteroid that forever changed life on Earth missed the planet completely and giant dinosaurs never became extinct? In this epic journey into the world of dinosaurs, an Apatosaurus named Arlo makes an unlikely human friend. While traveling through a harsh and mysterious landscape, Arlo learns the power of confronting his fears and discovers what he is truly capable of.
Every time there’s a Pixar movie you know that people are going to love it no matter what. The only thing is that this Pixar film was a bit different than the others. It followed the same basic formula but the meat of the story was a bit more intense than usual. It started with the typical sad setup and built from there. I was a bit surprised because the film dealt a lot with death and family. The family part didn’t shock me really but it was the death part that had me taken aback a tad. I understand, it’s normal and a part of life but when my 5 year old son looks at me with confusion then I have to raise an eyebrow a bit. I’m not saying that the film was bad at all. In fact it was really great. The family aspect was great and I thought it taught a nice message that it’s okay to be afraid and that sometimes fear makes you stronger in the end. The story itself was a journey of self discovery that everyone will be able to identify with in some way, shape or form and that’s exactly what I love about Pixar films. It’s easy to sit down as a family and enjoy a nice movie together. It may not be the strongest Pixar film out of the bunch but it still is very cute and there is something in it for everybody including a pretty funny hallucination scene. I thought the most impressive part of the film was the photo realism of the landscape. There were moments where I legitimately couldn’t tell if what I was looking at was real or computer animated. I don’t even have to tell you to go see it because if you are a Pixar fan (If you aren’t then what’s wrong with you?!) then it’s a no brainer and just like the others it might make you sweat from your eyes just a bit. 8/10
