The Movie:
Travis (Benjamin Walker) is a fun-loving, smooth-talking bachelor who’s never considered a serious relationship-until he falls hard for his beautiful new neighbor, Gabby (Teresa Palmer). But when fate threatens Travis and Gabby’s love, Travis must make a choice that will alter their lives forever in this unforgettably moving romance.
When you see the name Nicholas Sparks on anything you already know what you’re getting into. From the jump you get this forbidden relationship that forms between Travis and Gabby which creates a moral situation. I personally don’t like to see things like that in films out of preference and my take on relationships but as far as it pushing the story along, I do feel like it was a necessary tool in this aspect. From there we see them blossom as a couple and form a future together but of course it wouldn’t be a Nicholas Sparks story without heartbreak and boy is there heartbreak. You understand in the 3rd act of the film why it’s called The Choice and I would be lying if I said my eyes didn’t start to sweat a little. I’ll just say that if you’re a husband/wife/parent then it’s definitely going to tug on your heartstrings. Palmer and Walker both gave great performances and their chemistry together was perfect and made it feel so believable. This film, without a doubt, redeems Walker for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter…haha! My only complaint about the movie was the ending. It felt too abrupt and seemed like they were just trying to cross the finish line and wrap things up. Other than that this movie was another great book adaptation that will leave you an emotional wreck. So if you’re ready for something like that then I totally suggest picking this up ASAP. 7/10
