If you’re a child of the 90’s then there’s no doubt that you remember the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series. As a kid I was such a HUGE fan and honestly, who wasn’t? Now that we are on the cusp of the new film coming out (Aug 8th 2014) what better time to revisit the cartoon that brought the Turtles to the mainstream than with this release. This DVD compiles 10 fan favorite episodes that were put together from TV.com. Lionsgate has previously released the entire series on DVD (you can find it here) but this is the perfect way to enjoy some of the best episodes without having to sift through every single episode. With a running time of a little over 3 1/2 hours this will tide you over until we see them on the big screen again. The one thing that will definitely happen when watching this is the nostalgia will come flooding back and you’ll find yourself actually remembering these episodes. Even after so many years I slowly started to remember various plot points and scenarios like I had just seen the episode recently. I loved every episode on the DVD but of the entire 10 episodes I think “Cowabunga Shredhead” was one of my favorites. Just the fact that you have Shredder acting like Michelangelo was something that made me chuckle, even now as an adult. The only thing that I was a bit bummed out about was that the video quality of the episodes are pretty rough. They haven’t been cleaned up or remastered like I thought they might’ve been but it’s really a minimal thing. If you’re a TMNT fan then this is something you won’t want to miss and will be a great addition to your collection.
Special Features:
The Turtles: A Ninjatastic Look Back – A really neat feature that has interviews with the voice actors as they go down memory lane.
Exclusive Artist Interviews – Almost the same as the feature above but just involving the artists of the show.
A Shellabration Of A Fan-Nomenon Sensation: Devoted And Die-Hard TMNT Fans Speak – Probably one of the best features I’ve seen in a while. This shows fans basically speaking on how much they love the show and what it means to them.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Cowabunga Classics is available July 29th from Lionsgate
