Based on the novel by Lionel Shriver, We Need To Talk About Kevin tells the story of a mother (Tilda Swinton) dealing and coping with her sons’ (Ezra Miller) horrible killing spree at his high school as the two year anniversary of the event draws near.
The subject matter of this film is controversial but that’s what makes this film and story powerful. It’s something that could realistically happen to anyone at any given time and we see/hear about it constantly in the media. Alot of the story takes place in flashbacks that show the upbringing of Kevin (Miller) and the way he never formed a bond with his mother. As he grows up you start to see certain little “signs” that Kevin has a problem as well as the way he acts out towards his mother. Even though I knew the conclusion of the film, I was emotionally invested with it enough to want Kevin to change his mind in the end. Alas, that was not the case. The acting in this film was stupendous. Tilda Swinton really blew me away and I think this was one of the best films I’ve seen of hers in recent years. You can definitely see the pain and helplessness in her performance. Ezra Miller is completely believable as a toubled youth. The look in his eyes at certain times in the movie is almost scary. Another great performance was by John C. Reilly. He plays Kevin’s father and is a fresh departure from the comdedic roles we’re used to seeing him in. All in all, this was a great film with a tragic story.
We all have our mental vision of certain superhero films and wish we as fans could do something differently with it or make our own versions of the films we want to see. A few people have taken it upon themselves and done just that. Enjoy.

This is one of those movies that you come across late night on a Friday while browsing Netflix and say to yourself “Self, this looks pretty interesting. We should watch this” (This is exactly what happened to me and no I’m not crazy). TDvE stars Tyler Labine (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) as Tucker and Alan Tudyk (Dodgeball) as Dale – Two fun-loving hillbillies that just bought a cabin in the woods to transform it into their dream vacation getaway. A stereotypical group of partying college kids decide to take a trip to the lake and run into Tucker and Dale in a General Store while stopping off to grab beer. This movie takes the idea of “Judging a book by its cover” to a totally different extreme while keeping the humor and horror aspect. The college kids decide to go skinny-dipping one night in the same vicinity as where Tucker and Dale are fishing. When a girl named Allison (Katrina Bowden) strays off and knocks herself out after diving into the lake, Tucker and Dale jump into action and save her by pulling her from the water and into their boat. All the group of college kids see is two hillbillies (that look like serial killers) taking their friend away and that’s when it all goes downhill. They attempt to get their friend back with very disastrous results. I was very skeptical about this one but TDvE is a really fun horror/comedy movie that brings blood and gore along with good ol’ slapstick hijinks. I found myself laughing out loud at a few parts and let me say, I’ll never go near a wood chipper again. This is a must watch!
