Season Overview:
How do you deal with a fallout of heavenly proportions? With the angelic Host’s descent to Earth, Sam and Dean are now facing a world inhabited by thousands of powerful beings, who soon form their own chaotic agendas. Before tackling the threat of the “loose nukes” roaming the globe, however, the Winchesters engage in their most personal conflict yet. Meanwhile, Castiel finds he’s more vulnerable – and yet capable of more humanity – than ever. As the threat escalates, a way must be found to reopen the gates of Heaven and head off a demon insurrection in Hell. The whole time, darkness leaves its mark on Dean, but has he finally crossed the line to protect his family?
The Winchesters aren’t strangers to end of the world type of situations and boy do they have another one on their hands. By then end of season eight we saw Angels raining down from the skies like shooting stars and this season jumps off right from there. You just know some bad mojo is going down and will definitely give the guys a run for their money. Pretty much right from the get go the season is action packed and poses lots of questions that will move the season right along. Is it me or is Dean making a habit of being semi deceitful? That’s a trend that I’ve seen and it seems like it may culminate to something a lot bigger by then end of the series I think. Even though I like the narrative this season I do appreciate the random episodes as well. That’s where you see the creativity of the writers really shine. Episodes like “#THINMAN” take a famous urban legend and give it a realistic and believable twist yet it still manages to push the story arc along fairly well. The surprising thing that happened this season was the death of a character. It’s a bummer to see such a good character go BUT I did think that it was something that was an integral part of driving the main characters to strive for vengeance. When we round the bend and come up to the end of the season we see the Winchesters and their dynamic change quite a bit especially in the final moments of the season finale. It really makes you wonder where they are going to go next.
