Springsteen & I: Review

Have you ever loved a musical artist or band so much that you feel like you can relate to them in a way that no one else can? I think pretty much everyone can answer that with a yes. Music for the most part is a artform that people use to express themselves or use in a therapeutic sense. This documentary is very unique in a way that I’m not sure I’ve seen before. It takes testimonials, stories and concert footage from individuals and its all edited together for an extensive fan film experience. Springsteen has been the face of New Jersey for many years (waaaay before those Jersey Shore people) and many people see him as an “everyman” that they can relate to. It just floors me how many people have such a deep connection to The Boss and the lengths people will go to see him. I think the one story that stands out the most to me was the man dressed like Elvis at a concert. He was there in the front row practically and Springsteen called him on stage and they went directly into renditions of classic Elvis songs. For someone like him to call someone up on stage on a whim shows how much he trusts and is one with his fanbase. Every person in the film has some sort of story on how he has changed their life in some way or has gotten them through though times in life. As a musician that HAS to feel good to know that you are reaching fans in a way that no one else can. The other fantastic thing about it as well was all the archival footage of many shows from his past. To me, seeing footage like that is so fascinating and it’s like I’m watching a piece of musical history. To me this didn’t feel like a documentary, it felt more like a love letter to Springsteen from all of his fans. If you love The Boss…..hell, if you love music in general then you have to go out and see this movie.

Springsteen & I will be in select U.S. movie theatres on Monday, July 22 and Tuesday, July 30 at 7:30 p.m. local time.
