The Movie:
Maggie (Kristen Wiig) and Milo (Bill Hader) are two estranged twins that are reunited after ten years of being apart. With an irresistible mix of humor and heart and a stellar supporting cast, the film follows their unforgettable journey to reconnect, as they realize that the key to fixing their lives may just lie in repairing their relationship.
I saw the cover of this movie and I wanted to see it immediately because of the two stars on the cover. My first impression was that it was going to be an awesome comedy but it was so much more than that. You get what the film is going to be like within the first five minutes and it’s pretty grim but then something funny happens. What the film basically does is give you the permission to laugh and not take it so seriously the whole time. The film touches on some serious subjects but balances between some really funny quips and dramatic moments. Wiig and Hader both flex their acting muscles big time and give some of the best performances of their career in my opinion. They both expanded their abilities and I can guarantee that you will see them in a new light. They proved that they are way more than just your typical comedic actors and to say that I’m impressed is an understatement. My favorite moments are the ones between Wiig and Hader naturally. They work so well together and their onscreen chemistry just amazes me in a way that I haven’t seen in a while. The other person that gave an unexpected performance was Ty Burrell. His character slowly unfolded throughout the film until the revelation in the final act. Luke Wilson If you’re a fan of the two leads then you HAVE to see this film and if you aren’t a fan then I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised if you check this out. 9/10
Special Features:
To Whom It May Concern: Making The Skeleton Twins – A nice 15 minute feature that looks at the film with some great cast interviews and footage.
Sweet Moves – A really good feature that is set around the lip syncing scene in the film.
Gag Reel – A short collection of flubs that is very entertaining because of the cast involved.
Outtakes – These should’ve been packaged together with the Gag Reel. The funniest of the these scenes was the Dentist scene. I was literally laughing out loud at Wiig and Hader. Great stuff here.
