Sausage Party: 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Review
The Movie:
One sausage leads a group of supermarket products on a quest to discover the truth about their existence and what really happens when they become chosen to leave the grocery store.
There’s one thing right from the start that people should know about the film. After watching the movie there’s going to be three groups that walk away from it: Those that loved it, those that hated it and those that fall somewhere in the middle. I’m part of the group that fell somewhere in the middle. The story itself was a fantastic idea and I thought that it was executed really great with the way that these food items looked at humans as Gods and such. The two main scenes that stick out for me were the Shopping Cart Crash and the Kitchen Massacre. The Shopping Cart Crash was fantastic because it was made to look like a a scene right out of a war movie. The flour busted open during the scene and it drizzled down like smoke on a battleground. It was pretty hilarious. The Kitchen Massacre was great as well because you see all the food so happy to be out of the supermarket only to get torn apart, sliced and hunted like a moment from a horror movie. Now, the movie is very unapologetic when it comes to just how vulgar it can get and that’s where I had a bit of a problem. I didn’t have an issue with the content at all but what I did have an issue with was the amount of vulgarities throughout the film. It got to the point where every other word was a curse word and I felt like that took away from the actual story. There were also some things that I thought were unnecessary and thrown in just for shock value which doesn’t make a movie good. Like I said before, you’ll either love it, hate it or be in between but either way there’s one word to describe the movie: Interesting. 7/10
4K Presentation:
Much like many other blockbuster and/or animated films, this movie looks absolutely fantastic. The colors pop immensely and display a whole lot of clarity. The only thing that I noticed is that the detail in some of the characters doesn’t look that much different between the 4K and Blu-ray copies of the film. If you’re not a big video nerd then you may not be able to tell the difference and it may not even matter to you but those that love that kind of thing will be a bit disappointed with it a bit.
Special Features:
Good Food Gag Reel – This feature shows the actors in the recording studio cracking during various scenes. Really funny stuff here.
Shock and Awe: How Did This Get Made? – An interesting look at the development of the film and a lot of the hurdles that Rogen and crew went through.
Line-O-Rama – A collection of alternate lines from different scenes.
The Booth – A feature that shows a bit about the recording process for the dialogue.
The Great Beyond – A short look at the music in the film.
The Pitch – A campy feature on how to sell a movie.
Seth Rogen’s Animation Imaginatorium – Pretty much a parody of Disney’s animation tour featuring Seth Rogen.
