The Movie:
Russell is an undersized but big-hearted terrier who dreams of having a family of his own. After running away from his pet store, Russell gets taken in by The Ferraros, a family desperate to revive their grandfather’s pro wrestling arena. That’s when they discover their new pet pooch has incredible wrestling skills. With help from his coach, Hunk, a savvy and hilarious monkey, Russell rockets to the top of the pro wrestling world and becomes a famous sports superstar. But when a dishonest promoter double-crosses the Ferraros, Russell will face his biggest challenge and discover that the strongest tag team is family.
Puppies and Wrestling. Two things that are synonymous with each other. Ok, fine. They are pretty much the opposite but who doesn’t like cute little puppies right? It was only a matter of time until the Air Bud creators made their way into the squared circle and at this point with WWE going the more family friendly route this was the perfect time to capitalize on that. In you’re typical family film fashion we see the Ferraro family being double crossed by someone and they have to overcome it. It’s basic but it works in this instance and for a film like this it doesn’t need to be complicated. It’s definitely a cute film with lots of heart but it’s also pretty amusing when the dog starts to wrestle and you clearly see that it’s a stuffed dog hanging on to the back of someone. Things like that always make me laugh. This film is perfect for family friendly movie time especially if you have kids that are really young. They will love this for sure. 6/10
Special Features:
Hilarious Gag Reel – Hilarious may be a bit exaggerated but it’s more like a planned out gag reel with animals flubbing their lines.
Raising The Woof: Training Russell – This is a basic Behind The Scenes feature that looks at the making of the film.
Five Little Monkeys Sing-Along – Kinda self explanatory at this point.
