The Movie:

A woman, who is accidentally caught in a dark deal, turns the tables on her captors and transforms into a merciless warrior evolved beyond human logic.

This isn’t the first movie to use the “Humans only use 10% of their brain” speech so going into it I was already expecting Limitless 2. Sure it has some similarities here and there as far as opening up the mind to 100% usage but this film goes off into action movie/science fiction territory which is not really a bad thing in this case. I never thought of Scarlett Johansson to be an action star but after her being in various Marvel films she’s proven herself immensely. I really liked the way she presented herself when the change happens. Once her mind starts to open more and more the less fear she has and the way she would look around and analyze everything is the exact way that I would think someone in her position would act. The visuals are really beautiful with all of the scenes of space and time as well as an awesome scene of a universe being born. Luc Besson does a fantastic job at creating a film in the same vein as Leon The Professional and La Femme Nikita with a tiny bit of The Fifth Element thrown in (just in the way the visuals are presented anyway). There was this beautiful moment in the film that basically describes the way Lucy feels after her mind opens up. She’s there on the phone with her mother and she starts to tell her how she can feel everything and how she remembers things from when she was only a year old. That scene alone embodies what her situation is and was a perfect way to get that across. With a story such as this one it makes it rather easy to build on the 10% myth and I thought this movie did it quite well. If you’re in the mood for a weird, trippy sci-fi action film then Lucy would be perfect for you. 8/10

Special Features:

The Evolution of Lucy – Besson and a few cast members get together and talk a bit about the experience of making this film.

Cerebral Capacity: The True Science of Lucy – Besson and Morgan Freeman talk to scientists and they talk about the “science” of the film.
