The Movie:
Hoping to reverse a ‘curse’ that’s hung over his family for generations, Jimmy Logan (Channing Tatum) hatches a plan to rob the Charlotte Motor Speedway during the Coca-Cola 600, NASCAR’S biggest race of the year. He convinces his bartender brother Clyde (Adam Driver) and hairdresser sister Mellie (Riley Keough) to help him pull everything off–but first they have to break the bomb-maker Joe Bang (Craig) out of jail in broad daylight.
Heist movies are usually pretty cool as hell. The whole concept of putting together a plan, recruiting members then executing it is always fun to watch. They’re even better to watch when they’re done well with a sense of comedy thrown in and that’s where this movie excels. It brings together everything that you love about the Ocean’s films but with chunk of ridiculousness that makes you want to see where it all goes. I’m not the biggest Tatum fan but I felt like he really did a fantastic job here and I got lost in his character fairly easily. Driver was fantastic as well and had great chemistry with the rest of the cast which made every scene that much more fun and exciting. The plot is one that is semi-predictable at moments but to be honest it really doesn’t hurt the film at all. The action and the slight comedy thrown in make for a fantastic and fun film. If you are looking for a fun film to pop in, kick back and enjoy then you’ll want to grab this one as soon as you can. 7/10
4K Presentation:
There’s an obvious improvement in picture here. Each scene has impressive clarity and you can tell a whole lot easier in brighter lit occasions. There’s also a great improvement in black levels and there’s plenty that can be seen in darker scenes. Colors look all the more vibrant especially in the third act during the Nascar moments. There are a few moments here and there where I did notice some film grain but it’s nothing too extreme. All in all this a really good version of the film in this format.
Special Features:
Deleted Scenes – Only 2 scenes included and they are very short. Nothing too extravagant. Weird that this was the only feature on the Blu-ray.
