U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant) and criminal mastermind Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins) are closer than ever to their ultimate confrontation. While Raylan is torn by just how far he will go to bring Boyd down – including using Boyd’s fiancée Ava (Joelle Carter) as his secret informant – both Raylan and Boyd must now contend with the new incendiary force in town (Sam Elliott), a drug lord intent on building his own pot empire in Harlan.
I’ve put in a lot time on this series. I jumped on around when the third season aired and never looked back. I thought this season did a good job at going back to its roots. For a while there it seemed to go off track a bit but still managed to slide Boyd in there from time to time. For this being the final season it did feel like it was wrapping everything up nicely and didn’t seem too rushed. The deep relationship between Boyd and Raylan begins to unfold and it’s one of those moments that (if you’re a fan of the show) have always known but it was just never said. I always likened Boyd to be the Joker to Raylan’s Batman. As much as they go back and forth with each other they ultimately can’t be without one another and the final scene in the series really shows that. Olyphant and Goggins obviously are at the top of the list as far as performances go but you also have a great supporting cast with the likes of Joelle Carter, Sam Elliot, Garret Dillahunt and Mary Steenburgen who enhance every scene that they’re in. It was kinda sad to see this show go and I don’t think there will be anything like it. Although the show didn’t have the “shocking” ending that people may have expected, I do feel like it justified everything (total pun intended) that has been done with the characters and that it was a fitting ending. If you have yet to check out this show and have been wondering if it was worth getting into then now is the perfect time to pick up all the seasons. 9/10
