The Movie:
Young newlyweds Paul (Harry Treadaway) and Bea (Rose Leslie) travel to a remote lake cottage for their honeymoon, where the promise of private romance awaits them. Shortly after arriving, Paul finds Bea wandering and disoriented in the middle of the night. As she becomes more distant and her behavior increasingly peculiar, Paul begins to suspect something more sinister than sleepwalking took place in the woods.
I thought this was a unique film from the time I saw the initial trailer. The entire movie centers around a couple and no one else for the most part. I have to give it to Treadaway and Leslie because having the tone and momentum of the film fall on the shoulders of only two actors is a big challenge but thankfully they do it well. The film builds the tension extremely well and kept me wanting to find out what exactly was going on. The chemistry between the two stars is absolutely believable and the way they interact with each other is what kept me invested in the story. The film progressed with the husband trying to figure out what was going on with his wife and as it becomes more and more creepy and things start to unravel (SPOILER ALERT) it just doesn’t deliver as far as resolution. They don’t definitively show or explain what may have been in the woods so that was a bit disappointing. I would liken it to shaking a soda, opening it and finding out it was flat. It’s a shame too because it really is a great movie that kept me engaged. I hope this won’t sway anyone away from watching it though because it is a film that I enjoyed watching because of what it brought to the table. It mixed suspense, horror and sci-fi all while making you still care about the characters. Definitely watch this film but be aware that it may not have the ending you want. Watch it anyway!
