The Movie:
Tree (Jessica Rothe) is doomed to relive the day of her murder unless she can identify her masked assailant and hopefully stop the madness. If she can’t, she will be stuck in an insane loop, reliving a ghoulish nightmare that has become her death day.
This film sounds totally silly just from seeing what the title is but I wanted to give it a chance anyway. Much to my surprise it was actually a clever and unique take on a slasher film. Essentially it was a horror version of Groundhog’s Day with a murder mystery thrown in for good measure. The replay aspect of the story was entertaining but I will admit that towards the end of the movie I felt myself getting tired of it. Thankfully the film was over before it really got to me. Rothe gave a great performance. She was energetic and funny throughout the film all while being the usual “scream queen”. I will be honest though, initially her character was very unlikable but as the film went on she redeemed herself to a certain extent and I found myself rooting for her more and more. The movie isn’t the best out there but it does take a common horror genre and add an interesting and entertaining twist to it that I really enjoyed. Check this one out if you’re looking for an inventive horror film with a good amount of laughs thrown in. I still dislike the title though…Haha! 7/10
