The Movie:

When Baird Whitlock (George Clooney), the world’s biggest star, is kidnapped in the middle of production on the studio’s latest swords-and-sandals epic, Eddie will have to recover his leading man while simultaneously appeasing cowboy star Hobie Doyle (Alden Ehrenreich), disgruntled director Laurence Laurentz (Ralph Fiennes), swimming sensation DeeAnna Moran (Scarlett Johansson) and song-and-dance superstar Burt Gurney (Channing Tatum), all while horse-trading information to keep his talents’ names out of the gossip columns written by a pair of rival siblings, Thora and Thessaly Thacker (Tilda Swinton).

The moment that this film starts it has that classic Cohen Brothers comedy feel to it. It felt a lot like a film that was made in the 30’s or 40’s (which I’m sure that was the whole point) instead of it seeming like a movie that takes place in the 30’s and 40’s but feels like it was made now. The entire cast in this film is amazing! They embody these characters so fantastically to the point where you really feel like you’ve been transported to their time period. Clooney is absolutely great but it’s the supporting cast that really make the film pop. Ehrenreich, Johansson, Swinton and yes, even Tatum stole the movie with their performances. They really made the film pop in a manner that only they could. The story is a great Can you say that this is the ideal Cohen Brothers movie to watch? Probably not BUT it is so weird and eccentric that it will please their longtime fans without a doubt. So if you’ve liked what they have done in the past then it’ll be a no brainer to pick up. 7/10
