Carrie (2013): Blu-ray Review
The Movie:
A reimagining of the classic horror tale about Carrie White (Chloë Grace Moretz), a shy girl outcast by her peers and sheltered by her deeply religious mother (Julianne Moore), who unleashes telekinetic terror on her small town after being pushed too far at her senior prom.
This was a “reimagining” that I wasn’t against at all. It has been over 35 years since the original and usually I’m weary about movie studios touching a classic film but I think the time is perfect for a remake of one of Stephen King’s famous stories. In an age where bullying has been become more and more apparent it just feels like it’s the right time to reintroduce the story to a new generation. This is one of those films where you can’t help but root for the person doing evil things. Carrie is a character that sits between a gray area of good and bad. On one hand you feel immensely bad for her and sympathize with her and when she flies off the handle you can’t help but root for her to get revenge. It’s almost a double edge sword in a sense because of the way todays society is. You want to root for the person that is being wronged but at the same time this person is a downright killer. Moretz was the perfect person to play Carrie White. She has shown that she has grown so much as an actress and there is so much to appreciate from her performance. She plays up the naivety and awkwardness of the character which is the driving force of the film and she does it really well but where she shines is in the films’ finale. The movements she made when going on her rampage were beautiful yet creepy and with a simple tilt of her head she encompassed everything that was evil. It was almost like she was dancing with her fluid like maneuvers. Moore is unbelievably good in her role as Carrie’s mother. She plays crazy surprisingly well and there’s nothing scarier than a person doing horrible things in the name of God. I thoroughly enjoyed this film and I know a lot of people are against rehashing classic films but honestly if you have any doubt that this wouldn’t make the cut just remember to say to yourself “Anything is better than The Rage: Carrie 2. This one gets the Cinema Deviant seal of approval.
Special Features:
Alternate Ending – On the main menu it gives you the option to watch the theatrical version or the theatrical version with an alternate ending. I wasn’t too impressed with the alternate ending and I’m glad it wasn’t included in the film but those that might be curious will want to check it out.
Deleted/Alternate Scenes – Running at about 10 minutes or so this is a pretty good group of deleted scenes that you’ll want to check out.

Creating Carrie – A “Making Of” feature that shows interviews from the cast and crew. The talk about about the source material and talk about preparation for the film.
The Power of Telekinesis – A quick feature on how they portrayed telekinesis in the film.
Telekinetic Coffee Shop Surprise – This was pretty entertaining to see. It’s basically a Candid Camera segment with a coffee shop being set up as a young girl has a Carrie-like outburst.
