My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2: Blu-ray Review
The Movie:
Toula (Nia Vardalos) and Ian (John Corbett) have raised their daughter Paris (Elena Kampouris) in the bosom of her extended Greek family. But the now 17-year-old is eager to set out on her own. When an unexpected wedding threatens to disrupt the clan’s delicate balance, it can either bring them all together or put them all at odds in a heartwarming family comedy as sweet as a slice of baklava.
The first film was one of those surprising indie success stories that don’t happen very often and I think, for me, that was the big appeal of the film. It didn’t hurt that it was clever and funny with the way that it looked at Greek family customs. This second film is slightly less funnier but definitely keeps the family aspect going which is good. The film is pretty much exactly like the original for the most part even down to some plot points and gags but it’s still really enjoyable. A lot of the funnier moments come from the supporting cast and how they fill in during the main story arc when things may not be as humorous. My favorites had to have been the brother and the parents played by Louis Mandylor, Michael Constantine and Lainie Kazan. Their presence and what they brought to the film put a stamp to the end of every joke. Vardalos and Corbett have fantastic chemistry together as these characters and their goofball antics had me laughing out loud on multiple occasions. The film does suffer from sequel syndrome a bit but that doesn’t mean that it’s a bad film. It’s fun and pretty easy to watch so if a movie can accomplish at least those two things then I’m sold on it. If you saw and loved the first one then there’s a really good chance that you’ll enjoy this one as well. 6/10

Gag Reel – These are always my favorite part of blu-ray releases and this one didn’t disappoint one bit. The line flubs, miscues and overall silliness make this feature a must see.
My Big Fat Greek Dinner – Nia Vardalos, John Corbett, Louis Mandylor, Joey Fatone,Ian Gomez, Lainie Kazan, and Michael Constantine sit down in the Zorbas set and talk a bit about the original film and how Vardalos came about writing the sequel.
Making the Greekquel – This feature takes a look at Vardalos and how she was able to make the sequel happen as well as Director Kirk Jones’ work on the film.
