The Movie:
After interfering with a top secret mission, THE PUNISHER is taken into custody by S.H.I.E.L.D. AGENT and AVENGER, BLACK WIDOW. At the orders of Director Nick Fury, Punisher and Black Widow are sent on a mission to stop LEVIATHAN, a global terrorist organization, that plans to sell stolen S.H.I.E.L.D. technology to the highest bidder. Now, the vigilante and spy must work together to prevent this technology from falling into the wrong hands. The fate of the world, and of the AVENGERS, hangs in the balance.
With every Marvel anime release these things just keep getting better and better. It’s honestly one of the best that I’ve seen so far. Although I really liked Iron Man: Rise Of Technovore, I felt like this story was a lot more streamlined and easier to follow. One thing that I really liked was the fact that it starred two Marvel characters that you wouldn’t normally see together and the other A-List superheroes like Thor, Iron Man and Hulk had more of a supporting role. The animation looked absolutely gorgeous. I would love to see more mainstream storylines being put into anime form because the things they would be able to do with them would be amazing. It really is everything you would ever want in an anime mixed with your favorite Marvel heroes and with a mixture like that you can’t go wrong (well, technically you COULD go wrong but that didn’t happen in this instance). Brian Bloom and Jennifer Carpenter (who played The Punisher and Black Widow respectively) were pretty good at what they did. I thought the voice acting was better than the previous releases and it actually seemed like they were interacting with each other rather than just repeating lines blindly. You’re definitely going to want to pick this up if you’re a Marvel fan and who knows, maybe we’ll even see Spidey finally interact with The Avengers eventually.
Special Features:
The Vigilante vs. The Spy – A look at the history of Black Widow and Punisher in the comic universe. It also digs into their previous team ups throughout Marvel Comics.
Espionage and Punishment – A lot of the same type from the previous feature but this relates to them coming together through the anime style.
