The Movie:
Jane Haye’s (Keri Russell) adoration of all things Jane Austen is complicating her love life. Determined to be the heroine of her own story, Jane spends her life savings on a trip to Austenland, an eccentric resort where guests experience complete immersion in the Regency era. Armed with her bonnet, corset and needlepoint, Jane strives to avoid spinsterhood…but has a difficult time determining where fantasy ends and real life – and maybe even love – begins. Directed by Jerusha Hess. Written by Jerusha Hess and Shannon Hale.
How am I just now watching this movie? Oh how I adored this film! At first I wasn’t sure what to expect. Its starts silly and just gets sillier by the minute. My initial reaction was “ok either I will LOVE this movie or think this movie was cheesefest central.” Well, both happened! I really spent so much time laughing, shouting, smiling, and at some point realized I was in complete joy. I’ve only seen Pride and Prejudice (which now I have to go and see it again), so I think this was enough to understand some of the references. Now lets talk about these fantastic actors: Keri Russell was such a joy to watch and the perfect fit. She had the right amount of zing for her character Jane. JJ Feild as Mr. Nobley, my oh my. I could watch him all day. He embodied the “Darcy-ism” so well, I found myself falling in love with him over and over. Bret McKenzie as Martin, another perfect fit! He brought a lot of himself into his character and was just divine. Jennifer Coolidge as Miss Charming, can this lady do any wrong? Of course not! She had me laughing from the moment she first spoke. I adore her as much as I adored this film. This part was written for her. No doubt about that. Other notable actors were Jane Seymour, Georgia King, James Callis, and Ricky Whittle. The whole ensemble was perfect in every way. I really liked how this movie was so silly but still had me feeling all sorts of ways. Not to spoil the movie much for anyone, but I was so happy with the ending. I honestly cannot say enough about this film. It was so unexpected for me and now I will dub thee one of my favorites! Without a doubt, go check out this movie pronto. You will be so happy you did.
