A Walk Among The Tombstones: Blu-ray Review
The Movie:
Matt Scudder (Liam Neeson) is an ex-cop turned unlicensed private investigator who reluctantly agrees to help a heroin trafficker (Dan Stevens) hunt down the men who brutally murdered his wife. When the PI learns that this is not the first time, nor will it be the last, that these men have committed this sort of twisted crime, he must blur the line between right and wrong as he races to track the deviants through the backstreets of New York City before they kill again.
For the most part I’m pretty open minded about films but I can honestly admit that after seeing the trailer for A Walk Among The Tombstones all I figured this film to be was a variation on the Taken scenario. Which in a sense it was seeing as it dealt with kidnapping and such but turns out that it becomes a great crime thriller with a bit of a mystery thrown in there. Neeson is his usual badass self and commands every scene that he’s in bringing emotion and intensity. There was also a good back story thrown in to establish why Scudder was the way he was which I appreciated. I’ve taken a new appreciation for Stevens work as of late. In The Guest he also had a calm intensity about him. Much like the way Neeson is and in this film he does the same. Although it’s not a huge part in the film, his character is the driving force of it because of the situation. It feels a bit like the film 8mm except that it is kind of predictable in the third act. This film is different than the Taken series because there isn’t an true emotional attachment to Scudder but he does feel like he is morally obligated to do the right thing. I really dug this film quite a bit…..more than I actually thought to be honest. I suggest giving this film a chance even though you may be skeptical, I think you may be surprised. 8/10
