22 Jump Street: DVD Review
The Movie:
After making their way through high school (twice), big changes are in store for officers Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and Jenko (Channing Tatum) when they go deep undercover at a local college. But when Jenko meets a kindred spirit on the football team, and Schmidt infiltrates the bohemian art major scene, they begin to question their partnership. Now they don’t have to just crack the case – they have to figure out if they can have a mature relationship. If these two overgrown adolescents can grow from freshmen into real men, college might be the best thing that ever happened to them.
I remember when 21 Jump Street was announced and I could not believe that they were doing a film version of a show that I dug as a youngster. Then I saw it and thought it was one of the funniest movies of 2012. Afterwards I started to wonder if they could do a sequel to it and sure enough they had already started planning it. This film is a lot like the original (but not entirely) and it knows it. It basically makes fun of itself from the start and let’s you know pretty much what to expect and even in knowing that it’s still a pretty fun movie. Hill and Tatum have created this chemistry between them that is undeniable. They play off each other perfectly and you can easily tell that they are good friends off screen. There are times when the film maybe gets a little too “self aware” and it comes off kinda silly but thankfully there are only a few of those. Other than that this is a film that is enjoyable the whole way through but not superior than the original unfortunately. I think one of the best parts was the sequel joke at the end because it’s throwing out the possibility that more of these films just MIGHT be overkill. Either way it was totally funny and worth checking out if you dug the first one.
