The Movie:

When a half-Chechen, half-Russian, brutally tortured immigrant turns up in Hamburg’s Islamic community, laying claim to his father’s ill gotten fortune, both German and US security agencies take a close interest: as the clock ticks down and the stakes rise, the race is on to establish this most wanted man’s true identity – oppressed victim or destruction-bent extremist?

It’s been a good while since I’ve seen a spy thriller and with this being one of Philip Seymour Hoffman‘s final performances I HAD to check this out. Right from the start you could tell that it was going to develop in to an interesting tale to say the least. The film keeps making you feel like you’re in the middle of it all and aren’t particularly sure who is telling the truth. The thing that really grabbed me about the film was that it wasn’t your typical thriller that was fast paced and action packed. It was a slow building film that really made you pay attention to what was going on and kept you enthralled with the twists throughout. Hoffman gave such a stellar performance and really showed that he was phenomenal actor that could do just about anything. Rachel McAdams has shown an evolution in her acting ability and it’s hard to believe that this is the same girl from Mean Girls because of her perfect performance. This is not a film for everyone because of the flow of it but it’s such a great thriller that it does deserve to be seen. I wouldn’t doubt it to be part of the Criterion Collection eventually. Pick this up for sure or at least Redbox it before you buy it……you won’t be disappointed.

Special Features:

The Making of A Most Wanted Man – A pretty good feature that is basically an EPK with interviews the include the cast and crew.

Spymaster: John le Carré in Hamburg – The author of the book that this film is based on gives some insight on the film and talks about his history in the intelligence business. This is a fantastic feature and is very informative.

A Most Wanted Man is available NOW on Blu-ray and DVD from Lionsgate
